Why Candidate Experience Matters & What You Can Do to Improve It

Posted by Ryan Frazier

Building a winning Candidate Experience is not only a hot topic, it is the differentiator when it comes to finding, attracting and hiring the candidates your organization needs to be successful. Recently, we've had the opportunity to both participate in and host our own events around this hot topic.

Back in June, our President and Chief Product Officer, Danielle Weinblatt, joined Saul Weiner of One Medical for a panel led by Andres Traslavina, Director of Global Recruiting at Whole Foods, at Greenhouse OPEN to discuss the impact of great candidate experience. Danielle shared the value of a good candidate experience, "If a candidate has a negative experience, they tell six or more people. If they had a good experience, they’ll tell two or more people." And that it will affect your bottom line, "46% of candidates who believe they have had a 'negative' overall experience say they will take their alliance, product purchases and relationship somewhere else." The biggest takeaway from this session was that recruiting teams need to try and treat each candidate as an individual and try to understand what issues really matter to them -- and then reflect them in their personal journey, from interviews to onboarding.

Last month, we held our first Cocktails & Candidate Experience event in NYC with Russell Tobin. Over 100 in-house talent acquisition leaders attended to network with their peers and to hear our amazing panel share how they are addressing Candidate Experience at their companies.

Our awesome panelist of speakers from One Medical, Viacom, NBCUniversal and Verizon Media, shared what's really working at their company, what metrics they are tracking to measure success and what the future of Candidate Experience looks like.

Takeaways included:

  • The key elements of an amazing candidate experience
  • The biggest challenge they face when it comes to candidate experience
  • How proactive their organization is about ghosting, and how they are combating candidate ghosting?
  • Their recommendations for the one thing they would tackle if they could only pick one strategy or method to improve their candidate experience.
